June Mayson and Evan Barrister’s whirlwind courtship resulted in a secret marriage right before he left for boot camp. Evan knows deep in his gut that June is too good for him, but after getting a taste of the beautiful life they can have together, he’s unwilling to let her go. June promises to wait for him, knowing neither time or distance will ever change her feelings for Evan—that is until she’s served with divorce papers while he’s overseas and she’s forced to let him go.

Her marriage and divorce a well-kept secret, the last person June expects to run into when she moves back to her hometown is Evan. Angry over the past, she does everything within her power to ignore the pull she feels whenever he is near. But how can she ignore the pain she sees every time their eyes meet? How can she fight the need to soothe him even if she knows she’s liable to get hurt once again?

Is it possible for June and Evan to find their way back to each other again? Or will they be stopped by an outside force before they ever have a shot?

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

June and Evan were once married and so in love. One day, June received divorce papers from Evan’s mother, and that broke her. There were no explanations from Evan, and he didn’t even have the guts to bring it to her in person.

That was three years ago. Now, June is done with men. All they ever did was get her in trouble and break her hearts. Her last boyfriend was apparently a criminal, and he didn’t even give her his real name. All the men in her family are on high alert. They’re extremely protective, and they’re worried about June, so June has to endure Evan following her around town to make sure she’s not in danger.

June was reluctant to let Evan back in her life. I understood the pain she was in, and it would be hard to trust someone like Evan again. I like how he apologized and how he didn’t make up excuses. He straight up told her that he made a mistake, and he was a different man now. They really were perfect for each other. It’s sad that they had to be apart for so long, but at least it made their relationship stronger.

I must say that out of all the books that this author will be coming up with, I am most excited about Sage and Kim’s book! I’ve been dying to read their story!
