Review: Sustained (The Legal Briefs #2) by Emma Chase

Screen Shot 2015-03-27 at 12.53.05 AMA knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

This was a hilarious and heart warming read. Emma Chase really knows how to make me choke with laughter! The way she writes male POVs is very believable.

Chelsea’s brother and his wife died in a car accident. They left six children behind; so she stopped going to graduate school to care for them. It’s hard, because she was very close to her brother and her sister-in-law. They were her parents, since her parents died when she was young. She doesn’t have time to mourn for them properly, because she has to put the kids first.

Jake is a defense attorney. Of course, he’s a total manwhore. He had an STD scare, so he decided to actually get to know a woman first before getting into bed with them. As if that’s so hard. After having his wallet stolen by one of Chelsea’s nephews, he meets her. Their lives were entwined since that moment.

I love books with kids in them. It just makes me really happy. Jake was so good with the kids! At first, he really didn’t know how to handle them, but he learned, and he did it his way. Every child had a unique personality, and he knew how to handle each one of them. It was so cute and funny to read!

If you’re looking for a funny, romantic, and light hearted read, this one is for you!
